Mrs. N: Easy Transition,
Expert Treatment
Mrs. N is an 86-year-old mother, sister and
resident of Regency Place of Greenwood. After hip replacement surgery Mrs. N
began to experience complications with the hardware, which led to infection.
The infection left her with painful venous ulcers on her legs.
After an evaluation at Regency Place of Greenwood,
Mrs. N’s clinical nurse and physician agreed that she needed a higher level of
care, including daily physician visits, a trained wound care team and daily lab
tests and monitoring. They transferred her to Kindred Hospital Indianapolis
South.
Upon admission, Mrs. N was evaluated by her
physician and the wound care team. The team began immediate treatment to the
wound sites, which included several debridements to encourage healing. She also
received IV antibiotics and pain medications.
During her treatment, Mrs. N continued
communicating with her family and her friends at Regency Place of Greenwood, a
fellow Kindred facility. Caregivers at Regency Place were kept updated on her
progress.
As Mrs. N continued to heal, she was appreciative
of the continuum of care Kindred provided her. She said she felt the transfer
from Regency Place of Greenwood to Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South was so
smooth that she did not feel she was having to go through another hospital
stay.
After three weeks at Kindred Hospital Indianapolis
South, Mrs. N was able to return to her home at Regency Place of Greenwood on
February 26. She returned out of pain with no swelling and her lower
extremities venous ulcers had healed enough that Regency Place of Greenwood was
equipped to continue her wound care.
Today, Mrs. N is thankful for the care Kindred was
able to provide to help her get back to the thing she adores most, having
Sunday dinner with her daughter and sister.
Kindred Hospital Indianapolis South’s success is
apparent in stories like these as well as in our quality scores – our patients
and families rate our quality of care at 94.4 percent and over 92 percent would
